Howell Barron Key

August 26, 1950 — August 20, 2023

Howell Barron “Barry” Key, 72, passed away Sunday, August 20, 2023, at a local hospital. He was born in Copperhill, Tennessee, and had lived in this area for 50 years. As a believer in Christ, he was a member of North Cleveland Baptist Church. An electrician by trade, Mr. Key was extremely proud of the work he did across the southeast, but most importantly, of the work he did in building Watts Bar Nuclear Plant. He was a fifty-year member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and served as the Business Agent for Local Union 175 prior to his retirement. He cherished the friendships he made during his time with the Local.

He will be remembered for his quick wit, love of traveling, devotion to family, and passion for University of Tennessee Football.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 49 years, Jacquelyn “Jackie” Kendall Key, whom he nursed through a three-year battle with cancer; his parents, Braskey and Aileen DeBorde Key; two brothers, James “Jimmy” David Key, and Robert “Bobby” Donald Key; and a sister, Ella Mae Key Panter.

He is survived by his two sons, Barron Scott Key (Stacey), and Howell Patrick Key; a sister, Mary Louise Key Marcum (Ted); a sister-in-law, Wanda Key, as well as numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.

A celebration of his life will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 24, 2023 in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Dr. Jay McCluskey officiating.

The family will receive friends on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home, just prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to North Cleveland Baptist Church.
