George Wright "G.W." Young, 74, of Cleveland, went to his heavenly home Tuesday, February 16, 2010. He was a retired appliance repairman. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served in Germany. He was a member of the Michigan Avenue Baptist Church, but formerly served as associate pastor at Macedonia Baptist Church for 20 years. After his retirement he enjoyed being a school bus driver for Bradley County Schools.
He was preceded in death by his first wife and the mother of his children, Wanda Phillips Young and his parents, Neal Young and Mabel Hall Young.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Skelton Young of Cleveland; children, Brenda Young Hannah and husband, David and Lynne Young Brandt and husband, Scott, all of Cleveland; five grandchildren, Lindsey, Kayla and Josh Hannah and Colby and Chandler Brandt; sister, Gail Young Jubitz of Portland, OR; brother, Ronald Young of Dearing, GA; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, February 20, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Pastor Victor Hayes officiating. Interment will follow in Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service.
His family will receive friends on Friday from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
