Biography

Virginia “Ginny” Humphrey Douglas, 81, passed away Monday, February 15, 2010, at her home in Cleveland.

She was preceded in death by her husband of almost 50 years, Robert V. Douglas; her sister, Marilyn Jones; and her parents, Gladys Humphrey White and Earl Humphrey.

A lifelong homemaker, Ginny moved from her native Utica, NY to Maryland and then Virginia and settled in Cleveland in 1974 with her late husband, Bob, for his career with Bendix Corporation.

Ginny’s life was one guided by the motto “Live, Love, Laugh.” She enjoyed nothing better than sharing time with family, laughing over old stories around the dinner table.

Precious memories are cherished by her sister, Carol Joynt of Clark Mills, NY; her children and spouses, Rob and Bernadette Douglas of Cleveland, Jeff and Ellen Douglas of Christiansburg, VA, Kim and Doug Anderson of Louisville, KY and Ken and Nancy Douglas of Cleveland; grandchildren, Shawn Douglas (Adam) Reuss of Chester, VA, Scott Douglas, Matthew Douglas and Ryan Douglas, all of Cleveland, Emma Douglas of Christiansburg, VA and Hannah Anderson and Kelly Anderson of Louisville, KY.

Her children will remember the selfless nurturing and unconditional love she provided them throughout their lives. Her grandchildren will always remember their “Bam” as a source of endless support and encouragement.

She will also be remembered fondly by six special friends. After moving to Cleveland, Ginny and her late husband spent Friday nights for over 30 years with Tony and Yvonne Davidson, Ralph and Barbara Willig and Mike and Sue Zius, enjoying each other’s company and solving the problems of the world.

A celebration of Ginny’s life will be conducted Friday, February 19, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Pastor Garry Senna of Haymarket, VA, officiating. A private burial will take place at Chattanooga National Cemetery where she will be laid to rest with her husband.

The family will receive friends Thursday, February 18, 2010 from 5:30 - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
