Geneva Elizabeth Finnell, 84, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Tuesday, February 16, 2010 in a Knoxville hospital. She was a member of Westwood Baptist Church.
She was a woman of prayer who loved children, both hers and those in the Bradley County School System. Besides raising her own children, she was an early childhood educator in the Bradley County School System for over 20 years.
She was a daughter of the late Frank White and Sara Evalee Roderick White. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Hubert Finnell who was a decorated veteran and P.O.W. of World War II. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Virgil White and sister, Carzelle Pence.
She is survived by her children and their spouses: Wayne and Linda Finnell of Cleveland, Richard and Alma Finnell of Albuquerque, NM and James "Jimmy" and Phyllis Finnell, Karen and David Jones, Susan and Randy Ownbey, all of Cleveland; nine grandchildren: Sgt. Charles Finnell, Andrew Finnell, A1C Steven Finnell, Michelle Tyson, Angela Flowers, Nathan Jones, Kristen Berry, Matthew Ownbey and Laura Ownbey; four great-grandchildren, Bradley Fiveash, Caleb Fiveash, Lillian Flowers and Linkin Flowers; and one sister, Winona Campbell of Atlanta, GA.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, February 19, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Caywood and Pastor Ricky Vaughn officiating. Interment will follow in Hilcrest Memorial Gardens with Ben Berry, Matthew Ownbey, Charles Finnell, Andy Finnell, Steven Finnell and Nathan Jones serving as pallbearers. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service.
Her family will receive friends on Thursday from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m.at the funeral home.
The family requests that memorials be made to the building fund at Westwood Baptist Church, 4001 Georgetown Road, Cleveland, TN 37312 or to a children's charity such as Worldvision or Tennessee Baptist Children's Home.
